FAQs

1. Do I require a referral from a GP to see the Chiropractors?

No. Chiropractors are primary care practitioners which means you can see the Chiropractors without a referral.

2. Will I need to have x-rays?

You may or may not need x-rays depending upon your age, condition, family history and examination findings. X-rays will be recommended on your initial consultation only if your Chiropractor feels they will provide information which will assist with your care. The results may assist in treating you safely and relieving your symptoms. X-rays are performed off-site and are bulk-billed (covered by Medicare).

3. Is Chiropractic care safe during and following pregnancy?

Absolutely. Chiropractic care can be very effective for assisting the pelvis and low back during and after pregnancy. It can assist in relieving low back, pelvic and leg pain associated with pregnancy.

4. I have heard people say they have their spine corrected by a Chiropractor even though they don’t have any symptoms. Why?

Chiropractic care is recommended even if you do not have symptoms because spinal degeneration can start many years before obvious symptoms become apparent.

5. What can I expect on my initial consultation?

Your Chiropractor will first take a history – these are questions about the symptoms you are experiencing. This is to assist them in working out the exact cause of your symptoms. Next, your Chiropractor will perform a physical examination which involves Neurological, Orthopaedic and Chiropractic tests. Following your examination treatment will commence.

6. What can I expect on return visits?

Generally, a brief history is taken. Your Chiropractor will then discuss your response to your previous treatment. After this treatment continues.

7. Is Chiropractic covered by Private Health Insurance?

Yes, provided you have ‘extras’ cover.

8. Is Chiropractic covered by Medicare?

Chiropractic care is not covered by Medicare. However, if you have a referral from your General Practitioner under the Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) scheme you are eligible for 5 free visits.
